Minuteman Revolutionary Pizza is run by Chris, an American from Boston, and his Bolivian wife, Sussy. After a couple of days dipping our toes in territories that seemed overly foreign to us, we welcomed the familiarity at the pizza shop. Every bite into that pizza was worth savoring as it was the first American food we had in days! For a couple of hours, we felt like we were back in the US with all the English-speaking people around us. I am only five feet tall, but when I climbed into the bathtub and stood beneath the shower, my head was almost touching the bathroom ceiling.Īfter a quick shower, we hopped over to Minuteman Revolutionary Pizza at Toñito Hotel, Uyuni for a gigantic llama meat pizza to celebrate successfully getting there after the mishap earlier that day. Our room wasn’t tiny by any means, but it had a very strange, shallow, child-size bathtub, for adults. We stayed at Hostal Castillo de Liliana in Uyuni, a very basic hotel in the town center only a few blocks from the main street by the train station. The flight to Uyuni took only 45 minutes. The ticket at time of travel in 2015 cost ~USD 80 per person one way. We pre-booked our flight from La Paz to Uyuni directly on the Amaszonas Airlines website a couple of months prior to our trip.

We decided to fly, and it turned out to be a lifesaver! There were also train options which we did not explore as their schedules required multiple connections and we simply did not have the time for it. To get there from La Paz, you could either take an overnight bus or fly. The town of Uyuni in southwestern Bolivia is the gateway to the world’s largest salt flat.
